What we do

Alpha Phi is a membership dedicated to promoting sisterhood, cultivating leadership, and advocating service. Every year, we hold two of the largest philanthropy events on campus. In the fall, Jail ‘n Bail is an event at which we “capture” various leaders on campus and release them on a “bail” provided by their student organizations. In the spring, Ivy Man is our male beauty pageant, at which guys from BU and other local schools compete with the hope of being crowned Alpha Phi’s new Ivy Man. Both of these events are held at Harper’s Ferry and are always a good time!

Last year, our events raised over $10,000. Proceeds went to our national philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Foundation, as well as the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center and Rosie’s Place.

Alpha Phi’s symbol is the red dress, which is important to us because it is a national symbol for heart disease – the number one killer of women – and it is designed to build awareness that women are at risk. For over 60 years, Alpha Phis have worn red to aid in our international mission of promoting cardiac care.

Alpha Phi also participates in other events at BU and in the Boston area to benefit causes in addition to our own. Last year, in honor of breast cancer month, we held a bake sale to profit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
